TAILOR Workshop

TAILored surfaces in Operando conditions: structure and Reactivity”

Understanding the surface reactivity at the atomic scale is a timely challenge in various domains covering chemistry, physics and catalysis.

The Workshop TAILOR 2012 aims to provide an overview of the recent experimental and theorical advances in the operando investigation of solid/liquid and solid/gas interface. It is open to young and experienced scientists from academic and R&D laboratories.

Understanding the surface reactivity at the atomic scale is a timely challenge in various domains covering chemistry, physics and catalysis. This mandatory step is a prerequisite for the design of more efficient nanomaterials for applications such as in the fields of catalysis and of future energies. Up to recently, most of the experimental and theoretical studies in surface science have been carried out in idealistic conditions regarding the surface (i.e. on single crystal) and its environment (in ultra high vacuum or at very low pressure). In the past two decades significant efforts have been made in order to bridge the gap between this classical approach and more realistic systems. They have led to the emergence of new experimental tools allowing operando studies; that is the simultaneous observation of the structure and activity of tailored surfaces in the course of the reactive processes.

The workshop "Tailored surfaces in operando conditions: structure and reactivity" aims to provide an overview of the recent experimental and theoretical advances in the operando investigation of solid/liquid and solid/gas interfaces.

This 3-day event will take place in March 2012 in Grenoble's neighbourhood (parc regional du Vercors). The number of participants will be limited to about one hundred people.
